As you know my given name is James Bai. Since I was a kid I was always teased about my name, but instead of being a disadvantage, it turned out to be a great asset -- it was a name people always remembered. "Hi, my name is James Bai." The most common reply was, "Is your father's name Hudson?" To this day, I have friends that call me, "James Bai."

Well I figured in my lifetime I needed to visit my namesake and so I combined it with my new favourite past time, motorcycling.

Me and my friend Steve (aka. J'suis La on the GTAMotorcycle website took 2 days up, 1 day there, and 2 days back. The only way to get there by road was through Quebec. The distance from Toronto to James Bay is about 1600 km, farther than Moncton, New Brunswick!

Here is the record of our adventure.

Day 1: Toronto to Val-d'Or (750 km)

  1. The very beginning of our trip. I think me and Steve should've traded jackets.

  2. Lunch in Temagami

  3. Just some shots on the road. Do not try this at home.

  4. I like this one because you can see the road in my visor.

  5. We stopped in a town called Rouyn-Noranda for gas. As we were leaving town, we went over some train tracks and I felt something fall out of my tank bag. I look in my mirror and see something hit the asphalt, bounce a few times, and continue rolling. I pulled over and my heart sank as I realized it was my camera! We walked back and picked up the remains. It was pretty bent in one corner. I hit the power button, and instead of powering up, the flash pops up ... not good. So I try again and this time the lens extracts and the screen is okay! I take a quick picture of Steve and it works! I love my little Fuji Finepix F601 Zoom! What you might not know is I also dropped it on a cobblestone road in Den Haag, The Netherlands! Well, what trip would be complete without mishaps?

    Hanging out in Val-d'Or

  6. Steve in his element -- Poutine at Frites d'Or!

  7. You can get a great view of Val-d'Or from the Rotary Tower. I think the body of water is the back is Lac de Montigny.
